News April 2001.

20th April 2001

Gens v0.98 was released last week with Kaillera Netplay as promised by Stef, he did send me a beta a few days before the release but unfortunately I was away on holiday which is why the official Gens manual is late! You'll be glad to know it's now ready for download with two major new sections: Netplay and Multi-Tap. I'm not entirely sure that I could have witten the Netplay section before it went live in any case and I'd like to thank the following people who helped me figure a few things out and get some screenshots:

Faz, Gens-Man, GensUser, HitmanSX, MW, Richter, Slogra, Xplicit, .\\/\<> (sorry if I left anyone out!)

One of the major changes with the previous version of Gens (v0.95) was the addition of Multi-Tap (4 Player) support, Stef said that this only worked with Street Racer and Yuyu Hakusho Battle but from the tests I've done with the Multi-Tap games in the 0-D section it appears that Stef's code is a little bit better than he thought.... Here's a list of the Multi-Tap games from that section, on the left the games that aren't working properly and on the right the ones that are working. (I think this is all the Multi-Tap games in that section, someone drop me a line if I missed one)
 Not Working  Working
ATP Tour Championship Tennis  Barkley Shut Up & Jam!
Columns 3 : Revenge of Columns  Barkley Shut Up & Jam! 2
College Football's National Championship  Coach K College Basketball
College Football's National Championship 2      College Football USA '96
Davis Cup World Tour Tennis 2  College Football USA '97
Double Dribble : the Playoff Edition*
Dragon : The Bruce Lee Story

As you can see roughly half of the games with Multi-Tap support appear to be working correctly (* Double Dribble only has partial support), the trick is knowing how a particular game needs to be set up. All the games that work now have a page explaining the Multi-Tap setup needed, Click Here to see the Multi-Tap instructions for Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story for example. All these instructions are also in the new Multi-Tap section of the official Gens manual and I'll add more as I find them.

I also added Multi-Tap instructions for the other 3 Multi-Tap games that are known to be working: Mega Bomberman, Street Racer and Yu Yu Hakusho Battle.

Got all the D's into the new format & checked them with Gens.

Added a missing review for Devilish Mahjongg Tower and screen shots to Dodge Ball.
