News.

30th June 2000

Sorry for the long delay between updates but I've been working on a new section which turned out to be very time consuming! So what's the new section?

It's called 'Sonic's Secrets' and includes things like cheat modes, game tips, level codes, and other miscellaneous things that don't quite fit in anywhere else. If you see this symbol at the bottom of the page then there is a secret for that game. Also to make it easier to navigate I changed the format of the game listings (0-a and B only so far) and there is now an extra column down the right hand side where the letters M G S will appear:

M means a manual/Walkthrough/FAQ is present,
G means Game Genie Codes are available,
S means 'Sonic's Secrets'.

So why did it take so long just to do the 'Sonic's Secret' files for 0-a, unfortunately most of the files on the web are poorly presented and often badly explained or with some vital instruction missing and quite a few seem to be complete works of fiction! This means that I have to sit here and check every single one - a difficult job in some cases. The plus side of this for you is that if it appears here you know it works. If you think I missed something let me know, but make sure it works first! (Screenshots & Savegames would be useful).

I also added a missing Game Genie file for Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP2.

Other Genesis related news:

Gens version 0.76 was released this week. Again this fixes several of the remaining problems, not that there are many left now. Stef also said he's going to work in Paris for a couple of months so this will probably be the last update for a while. (Good luck in Paris Stef, & I look forward to hearing  from you when you get back).

Atani Software released a new version of SegaEmu (V0.50) with G/MD support, unfortunately the rumoured MegaCD support is absent in this release. It seems to be a fairly good emu, although it's a little sluggish at the moment and a frame skip option is badly needed. Definitely one to watch for future releases.

Vegas finally has a homepage, and a new release for this week to test the new graphics modes. The latest versions seem to be a lot faster that before, but there is still a long way to go before the 32X side of things will be useful.

The B's have now been redone, err well almost..... There are still a couple of 'missing' games to add, a few of the screenshots still need replacing, & compatibility needs to be double checked on a few games - especially as a new version of Gens came out today (the third release in a week!). For a full list of what's been done look below.

New reviews:
Bahamut Bahunt Senki, Bible Adventures.

New Game Genie Codes:
Buster Douglas KO Boxing.

New screenshots:
Ballz, Barney's Hide & Seek Game, Bart v's the Space Mutants, Bart's Nightmare, Bass Masters Classic, Batman, Batman & Robin, Batman Returns, Batman - Revenge of the Joker, Battle Frenzy, Battle Golfer Yui, Battle Squadron,  Battletech, Battletoads, Beyond Oasis, Bimini Run, Body Count, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Bubsy 2.

Updated compatibility notes:

We have now joined the affiliate program run by Eidolon's Inn,  Atani Software, and Sega Haven. So I took the opportunity to completely rewrite the links page which was thrown together in about 10 minutes over 6 months ago and has remained almost unchanged since! Why not take a look and visit our affiliated sites as well.

I also changed the menu system, it's all text/table based now instead of being graphics based so it should load faster. It looks exactly the same as the old version in IE, but the colours are off in Netscape and I can't figure out why! (I *@!~%#? hate Netscape!).

Other Genesis related news:

Gens version 0.70 was released this weekend. This fixes a few of the remaining problems, not that there are many now. New features for this release are the addition of 640x480 and 2xSAI (as used in ZSnes) Fullscreen graphics modes.

9th June 2000

I'm working on the B's again at the moment, but with work and everything else it's taking a bit longer than anticipated, so there's just a minor update today.

If you look in the FAQ section there are now two new sections which I think a lot of people will find very helpful. First there is a section on using Game Genie Codes, and then a brief note on how to get Save/Load games and Game Genies working in KGen98 when it breaks!

Other Genesis related news:

TRZY, the author of Genital, reports that he is working on Virtua Racing, which uses a Hitachi SH-1 Chip, and he already has a couple of work in progress screens for you to look at. There is also a shot showing some preliminary work on a GUI which will be a very welcome addition to this Dos based emulator.

Digital Relicts reported earlier in the week that 9 new/rare Chinese roms had turned up recently. I have now managed to track these down and they will be added here as well as soon as I have time. (Please NO ROM REQUESTS - Hint: look at the news at Emulation HQ a few weeks back!)

2nd June 2000

The X-Z's are ready today. Don't think it's all over yet though because there are still about 100 games to be added to the database and there's a lot of tidying up to do. This could take a while......

Updated some compatibility notes (Mostly for Gens):

3 Ninjas Kick Back, Abrams Battle Tank, Addams Family Values, Aerobiz, Aerobiz Supersonic, Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle, American Gladiators, Atomic Runner, Tagia Drama Taiheiki, Taiwan Tycoon, Tale Spin, Tecmo Super Hockey, Terminator 2 Judgement Day, Time Killers, Tin Tin in Tibet, Toe Jam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron, Topgear 2, Toughman Contest, Truxton / Tatsujin, Tyrants - Fight Through Time, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Ultimate Soccer, Wayne Gretzky & the NHLPA All-Stars, Wheel of Fortune, WWF WrestleMania Arcade.

Other Genesis related news:

Gens version 0.60 was released. This fixed a lot of the problems with speech etc. (see above). This now has to be the best WinDoze based emu., it's fast, it runs about 92% of games (and a further 4% with various minor problems). If you haven't already tried Gens I suggest you go visit the Gens Homepage & download it, you won't be dissapointed.

Genital version 0.30 (Dos) was released with preliminary Menacer (Light Gun) support. As before this is still slow and buggy, also it's entirely command line driven which is probably beyond most people these days.
